1st Birthday!

Wow, where did a year go?!  It's amazes me to think about how much has changed in just 1 year and how quickly babies go from a tiny screaming machine to an upright, chattering, adorable creature.   Here are just a few things about Ryan at this age - mainly so I can remember 20 years from now...
  • Says agua, ta (truck), dada and sometimes mama
  • Signs the word "more"
  • Has 2 speeds of crawling - fast and super fast
  • Pointing at everything with a cute "uh, uh, uh"
  • Pushes the dining room chairs from one end of the house to the other
  • Gives kisses with his mouth wide open
  • Claps for himself
  • Puts hands on ears or side of head when you say "oh no"
  • Says "uh" and 10 seconds later sometimes follows with the "oh"
  • Has 6 teeth
  • Dances - sometimes kicking one leg to the side while bouncing
  • Loves the bath and splashing water in his face
  • Squishes up his face and makes a funny noise through his nose when you ask where his nose is
  • Loves a blanket - it immediately makes him lay his head down and smile

So, for his very first birthday we spent the day with our little family of 3.  We began the day at the zoo, which Ryan absolutely loves.  I think his favorite animal at the moment is the duck.  Here he is watching the ducks swim in the pond and walk around the sidewalk right next to us, signing "more" :)

After looking at all the animals, we boarded the train to head to the Botanical Gardens.  This was our first time to ride the train and he LOVED it!  Once at the gardens we attempted a picnic, but there were just too many things to see to bother with eating.

Not to mention a nearby duck...

After the picnic, we walked around a bit while Ryan napped a bit and then we hopped back on the train to head home.  Then, after a more decent nap at home we opened presents.  What fun!

Playing with all the new things while Daddy builds his new work bench.

And then it was time for another nap... So Robert and I baked a blueberry pie (have we mentioned this kid can devour blueberries?!).  Unfortunately, he woke up not feeling well (we later realized he had croup) so we held out on the pie until the next day.

He was apprehensive at first and then really chowed down!

 Happy Birthday Ryan!
